Dr. Onn Akbar Ali
Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist: two decades in the Australian healthcare system, now caring for hearts in Malaysia.
His Story
Dr. Onn studied medicine at the University of Adelaide, Australia, then trained as a physician and cardiologist in Adelaide and Sydney, completing advanced fellowships in interventional cardiology and echocardiography. He rose to Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at The Queen Elizabeth and Lyell McEwin hospitals in Adelaide, where he also trained the next generation of cardiologists.
In 2013, after two decades in the Australian healthcare system, he returned to Malaysia and built a comprehensive heart service from the ground up at KPJ Kajang Specialist Hospital as Head of Cardiac Services. Today he practises at KPJ Ampang Puteri and KPJ Kajang, and reaches more than a million people through social media, television, podcasts and community programmes.
